SIMPLE BLESSING
Another Thanksgiving Day has come and gone.
No doubt as the day approached a lot of us felt that this year we really had very little for which to be thankful.
It doesn't present a very bright. picture when we let our minds reflect on the fact that the flower of American manhood is now engaged in a desperate struggle for the survival of our nation and civilization.
It seems so lonely here at home and sometimes, there seems no ray of light through the darkness, yet, after all, we can be thankful for the privileges we yet enjoy.
The simple things of this life are more important than a lot of people realize.
Recently I had a serious illness. In the six weeks I was confined to my bed, (part of the time in the hospital), I was made to fully realize the blessing of good health. A healthy body and an alert mind is to be treasured above riches. For without these things money is of very little importance, as far as happiness is concerned. I am now at home and well on the road to recovery.
My daily prayer to God is:
Oh help me to be thankful Lord, for simple things,
For sunlit skies, for bird and bee and flower.
For happy home, tho humble it may be,
For loved ones gathered round at twilight hour.
Help me to put my faith and trust in Thee
Forgive my weakness, calm my doubts and fears.
And keep my eyes fixed on the road that leads
Through darkness to the dawn of a brighter year.
