A THANKSGIVING PRAYER FOR 1944
Dear God we thank Thee on this day
For blessings rich and grand.
For everything we have and hold
We know comes from Thy hand.
We thank Thee for America,
The home that gave us birth.
To us it is by far, Dear God,
The dearest place on earth.
We thank Thee for the hill and dale
The wind swept rolling plain.
The sun-kissed valley, verdant green
The lofty mountain range.
That o'er these dear loved homeland shores
From sea to shining sea,
The stars and stripes still wave
Aloft, the banner of the free.
The banner which extends to all.
May they be rich or poor.
The rights of free-men that we know
Is well worth fighting for.
We thank Thee for a leader, brave,
Who goes to Thee in prayer,
Who trusts Thy wisdom and Thy love
For guidance everywhere.
Be with those lads who fight today
With willing heart and hand,
To gain a victory o'er the foes
Who would enslave this land
On wings aloft, on land or sea,
Please be their staff and stay,
They need Thy guiding hand, dear God
Go with them all the way.
To those who fall for freedom's cause,
Embrace them in Thy arms,
And be to dear ones left behind,
A refuge in the storm.
We humbly pray for courage, Lord,
For strength to carry on,
Be with us through the darkness
That must come before the dawn.
And when the dove of peace
Shall spread it's healing wings again,
Still keep us walking in Thy ways,
For Jesus' sake, Amen.
